Peace with honour

There is well nigh universal desire for peace in our motherland the unitary sovereign state of Sri Lanka. Only eccentrics and quacks will not yearn thus. However what irks honest patriotic citizens is how far Balasingham who is the voice of Prabhakaran the internationally recognised terrorist movement can be trusted when he talks of two nations in our land, the Sinhala nation and the Tamil nation. He grossly misrepresents the true situation.

The truth, than which nothing is more sacred, is that the Sri Lankan nation is one unitary sovereign country the territorial integrity of which has been and will continue to be defended and upheld by all patriotic, freedom loving citizens. Let that be clear to Balasingham and his ilk.

Of course, we are a nation of many communities. These, the Sinhalese, Tamils, Moors, Malays, Burghers, despite vicissitudes, have for the most part, lived, worked, and prospered in all parts of this, our beautiful island home. Distinguished citizens of these communities have contributed to its welfare and progress. We have such among us in this day and age.

Let us endeavour to forgive and forget the wrongs and hurt that we have caused to each other. Let us unite in a spirit of love for our motherland.

The bonds that unite us are stronger far, than those misgivings of bygone times. There is one cause that can inspire us to unite. ‘That surely is peace’ with honour, for us all as patriotic citizens of our motherland Sri Lanka.
